Religious Education

The goal of all religious education is to grow in our knowledge and love of Jesus Christ the Lord. Religious education and spiritual formation need be priorities in the lives of all Catholic Christians. Our search for knowledge never ceases. We firmly believe that God created us to know Him, to love Him and to serve Him and others in this world and to be happy with Him in the world that is to come. The more we come to know God, the more we love Him. And the more we love Him, the more will we want to serve Him in His Church and people. Our patron, St. Paul, wrote that God so much wants to feed us "solid food," however we are content with the "milk of babes." A mature Christian faith calls for an adult knowledge of Christ, His Gospel and the demands of discipleship. Prayer, study and christian action are the three essential prongs of strong discipleship.

The religious education of our youngsters has long been a priority here at St. Paul's. It is our firm conviction that we must sow the seeds of faith during these formative years of their lives. Religious education and formation are first and foremost the responsibility of our parents and godparents. The programs and efforts of the Church only build on the foundation which our youngsters receive in the home. Our Parish depends on the collaboration and commitment of our parents and families in this process.

Adult Religious Education is our second concern. Living in an ever-changing world, our Catholic faith needs to be addressed to the problems and concerns of our times. During the various stages of our lives, we need to reassess our faith and our commitment to Christ. During the course of the year, various programs are offered for our parishioners and friends to explore their Catholic Christian heritage.

The Confirmation Preparation Program

The Confirmation Program at St. Paul's is a two-year program consisting of two levels. Students of the Parish in grades 9 through 12 are invited and urged to participate in this sacramental preparation. Classes are presently held bi-monthly on Monday evenings in the lower hall of the Fr. O'Reilly Center. To be eligible to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, candidates must have completed 10 years of formal Religious Education which includes Level I and II of Confirmation Preparation. In addition to participating faithfully in the class sessions and attending Lord's Day Mass regularly, each candidate must complete 3 hours of "community service" on each level as designated and approved by the Program coordinators. A Confirmation Retreat and "Letter of Intention" are also required.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the completion of the Sacraments of Initiation for Catholic Christians.

The Confirmation Program is coordinated by Father Conrad with the assistance of facilitator Mrs. Diane Morin.
